Chilly and stronger

(Didn't know that there were so much dust until I saw the photo)

Kelly Clarkson What doesn't kill you make you stronger is on the radio in my car and I think that title is a perfect quote for this post. With -29° C (-20° F) the gear level was a little sluggish even if the engine pre-heater had been connected to the car the whole night. But that didn't stop us from driving to the city to watch a winter-swim-competition held on the river.

I'm just going to tell you that the water temperature was about 1°C (34°F), the photos will speak for themselves....

Oh. My. Goodness.
Here in the US we have Polar Plunges. That's when people jump into freezing cold water and them jump right out again. But this looks like people are actually swimming from one side to the other! Strong, indeed!

ELLA! Those temps are SOOOO cold! I cannot imagine going out in them with FULL winter wear on them let alone in a swim suit!!!!!! WOW!

oh dear. we have here a similar event every new year's day - the polar bear plunge. it isn't a swimming meet but people go to the lake shore and take a dip in the water. I wouldn't do it myself but I do enjoy watching others take the plunge. you are having some frigid weather there, and here we still have no winter to speak of. thanks for visiting me at Stolen Car - I've been posting there while taking a hiatus at my other blog. It's a collaborative venture with my blogging friend Susan. I do appreciate your comment - and I'm surprised that you found the blog at all! happy day to you my friend.

OMG!!! It must come with growing up in that climate. I could NEVER do such a thing. But, then again, I can't swim anyway. ;)
